What is Direct Your Energy?

Direct Your Energy is a dashboard for Direct Energy customers that shares easy-to-navigate tools that depict and analyze your energy usage. Each tool has a unique function that will help you manage your usage to potentially save you money.

 

How do I access Direct Your Energy?

Log into your Online Account Manager. Hover over "Usage and insights" in the top navigation bar and click "Direct Your Energy."

 

How can Direct Your Energy benefit me?

Knowledge is power, and Direct Your Energy will empower you to become a smarter, more thoughtful consumer. You'll better understand your charges and what may have accounted for them.

Energy usage dashboard

Get access to everything you need to know about your energy usage when you log in to your Online Account Manager (OAM). Direct Your Energy gives you the tools to manage your energy usage more efficiently.

Energy insights chart

Our handy energy insights chart reflects how much energy your HVAC, fridge, and other household appliances actually use. You'll see the itemized usage and what that usage cost you. Finally, you can make sense of your energy charges.

Heat map calendar

Direct Your Energy features a color-coded Heat Map Calendar that visually depicts your energy usage for particular days. Each calendar day shows the amount of energy consumed via an easy-to-recognize color scheme so you can identify what may have contributed to a high or low day and adjust your future usage accordingly.

Home comparison tool

The home comparison tool generally reflects your home's energy usage to that of homes similar to yours, so you can see if you're using more or less energy than the other homes. You'll see not only how your overall usage stacks up but also a breakdown of the individual elements that contribute to your bill, like your heating and cooling.

Usage anomaly alerts

Usage anomaly alerts are alert message features for abnormal usage patterns. These email alerts are triggered when your actual usage is considerably different than what would've been predicted, given weather conditions and your historical usage patterns.

Predictive weather overlay

The predictive weather overlay is unique to Direct Energy and not offered by any other energy supplier. This planning tool features a weather forecast that predicts temperatures and mathematically estimates your future bill amount based on your historical usage measured against the expected weather. You can proactively adjust your usage to lower costs based on upcoming conditions and predictions.

You can use the dynamic usage calendar to easily track the highest and lowest cost days throughout the billing period. A color-coded identification system is there to help you identify high and low usage days. 

Plus, the days when your usage is at its peak and its lowest, along with the average, will be converted into a dollar amount. This will help you better grasp your energy costs relative to your usage. You'll also receive a calendar note for each usage alert you receive.

 Note: You'll see a note on your calendar every time for each usage alert you receive.

Through various tools, Direct Your Energy will share how much energy you have used within your current and past billing periods and what that usage cost you. The tools include:

  • A dynamic usage calendar displays a heat map with color-coded high and low usage days, helping you identify usage patterns and review daily consumption.
  • A monetary translation of your highest usage day, lowest day, and average cost per day.
  • Alerts for significant changes in your usage patterns.

  • Dynamic usage graphs compare your monthly usage to the average monthly temperature in your zip code.

The Direct Your Energy weather overlay is a unique smart tool from Direct Energy. It shows the temperature in your zip code and forecasts the potential cost of your daily usage based on your past patterns. This tool helps you link the weather to your usage, prompting you to make adjustments that could save energy and money. Please be aware that these are estimated costs, and actual consumption and costs may vary.

The Direct Your Energy dashboard visually represents your energy usage, comparing it to the average monthly temperature in your zip code. This tool lets you track when and how much electricity you use and the weather patterns in your area that could impact your usage.

Direct Your Energy compares your total energy usage to the average energy usage of homes with similar sizes, amenities, usage patterns, locations, and other characteristics. Completing your home profile is a simple way to enhance the accuracy of your peer comparison insights.

Direct Your Energy is a dashboard within your Online Account Manager. When you log into your account, you can see the dashboard and review your usage for valuable insights into your bill.

The Direct Your Energy tool uses your smart meter usage in 15-minute increments, home profile information, and proprietary algorithms to estimate how key home systems and appliances use energy. We can estimate appliance usage for your:

  • Heating and cooling systems
  • Lighting
  • Dishwasher
  • Refrigerator
  • Clothes dryer
  • Clothes washer

The "Other usage" category refers to usage we cannot identify individually, including but not limited to electronics such as televisions, computers, speakers, cell phone chargers, and smaller appliances such as toasters, microwaves, and hair dryers.

The "Fixed charges" category refers to transmission and distribution fees assessed by the utility company for your area. These charges reflect the cost of delivering electricity to your home and for the maintenance, repairs, and reading of the lines, poles, and meters.

Please note: Usage costs are estimated, and predicted consumption and costs may differ from actual consumption.

Direct Your Energy helps you visualize and analyze your energy usage patterns, helping you make informed decisions about your energy consumption. Managing your usage efficiently leads to potential money savings.

Direct Your Energy provides you with the knowledge and insights needed to better understand your energy charges and what factors may have contributed to them. By understanding your energy usage and patterns, you can make more informed decisions for your home and budget.

If you are enrolled in your Online Account Manager and receive a paperless bill, you will automatically receive a usage alert email when your energy consumption is substantially higher or lower than your predicted energy consumption for an extended period of time.

If you are enrolled in Our Account Manager and receive a paperless bill, you will automatically receive a weather alert email when there is an extreme weather condition that is predicted to increase your bill. While these events are rare, our helpful tips and suggestions can help you better prepare your home, adjust your energy usage, and potentially save you money.

When viewing the Direct Your Energy dashboard, you will see two line graphs for your previous bill and your next bill estimate. Each dot on the line graph represents one day of your bill cycle and the cumulative usage cost. You can compare your outlined usage from Direct Your Energy against your actual bill, located in the billing and payments tab. Please note, that usage costs are estimated and that predicted consumption and costs may differ from actual consumption and costs.
