Upstream Power

Direct Energy owns and operates three power generation plants in the state of Texas, with a total capability of over 1200 megawatts (MW) – that's enough electricity to power nearly a million average Texas homes. We employ approximately 70 people in our power plants. We also own all of the electrical output of multiple wind farms in Texas under various power purchase agreements.

As Head of Upstream Power, Michael is responsible for all power plant operations, NERC compliance, budgets, and performance management. He is also an essential interface with our Midstream & Trading group to ensure our power plant performance is optimized.

Michael has over 20 years of experience in power generation both operationally and in power plant construction. Prior to leading Upstream Power, Michael was the Plant Director at Direct Energy's Frontera Energy Center. Michael spent 9 years in international assignments with General Electric and began his career with Schlumberger working on offshore drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico.
