Upstream Gas

Our Upstream Gas unit serves as Direct Energy’s oil and gas development and production business in North America. Based in Alberta, Canada, we operate over 4600 wells. Our three main field sites are in Medicine Hat, Stettler and Wildcat Hills and our main offices are in Calgary. Combined, we employ approximately 240 industry experts. In one year, we expect to produce enough natural gas to supply approximately 420,000 homes.

The upstream gas unit is organized around seven functional areas of expertise:

  • Health, Safety and Environment
  • Land
  • Geosciences
  • Engineering
  • Operations
  • Business development
  • Finance

Facilities and infrastructure ownership in all of the Upstream Gas unit’s key operating areas allow for control of production expenses, and focused asset ownership in nine core properties represent approximately 90% of production, cash flow and reserves value.

Since 2007, Upstream has doubled production and is continuing to seek further investments both within existing assets and strategic acquisition opportunities.
