Manu Asthana became Head of Direct Energy Upstream & Trading effective April 1, 2013. Prior to this he was the Senior Vice President responsible for the continued formation and growth of the Direct Energy Midstream and Trading line of business.
Manu joined Direct Energy in May 2010. He has spent his career in energy trading, most recently as Sr. Vice President of Luminant Energy, where he was responsible for gas and power trading, including origination, structuring, asset management for TXU's 14,000 MW generation assets and retail portfolio management for TXU's retail energy business.
Manu has enjoyed a successful track record over his energy trading career, including significantly growing Luminant Energy's trading and asset management profits. While Manu has spent most of his career leading energy trading teams, he was also appointed Chief Risk Officer at TXU before returning to the front office.
Manu holds a bachelor's degree in economics with concentrations in finance and entrepreneurial management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was designated both a Joseph Wharton Scholar and Benjamin Franklin Scholar. He also spent one year at Oxford University before beginning his career as an options trader.

Murray Henderson, Canada Gas
Murray has had significant experience trading natural gas at various locations in North America. Most recently, he was at Louis Dreyfus Energy Canada as VP Trading Natural Gas and prior to that was at Citadel Investment Group in Chicago where he was Director of Natural Gas.
Jeff Frenza, Gulf Coast Gas
Jeff has 17 years of commodity trading experience, working on the Southeast, Northeast, Texas, and NYMEX desks throughout his career. Previous to Direct Energy, Jeff worked for Nextera Energy, BP Energy, Reliant Resourses and Mirant. The Gulf Coast Gas desk manages a portfolio of storage and transportation assets from Texas to the Southeast and can offer an array of physical and financial products to assist in your energy needs.
Rob Stalford, Options Trading
Rob has over 17 years of energy trading experience including Natural Gas, Electricity and Crude Oil. Rob operates his group with a customer focus providing solutions for internal and external customers needing locational pricing flexibility. Rob also has responsibility for fueling the Direct Energy power plants, managing gas storage facilities across the US and Direct's transportation and gas scheduling groups. Rob comes to Direct Energy from Shell where he most recently ran North American crude options trading. Rob has also worked at Columbia Energy, TXU, Enron and RWE in various energy trading rolls. Steve Dalicandro, North East Power
Steve has 18 years of commodity trading experience, including 12 in electricity markets. Steve has managed electricity and gas desks throughout his energy trading career. The Northeast Power Desk provides an array of products from wholesale electricity to full requirements power in PJM, MISO, Nepool, and NYISO. Jeff Boling, North East Power Origination
Jeff has worked in the power & gas industry for more than 20 years working for Amoco, BP and Direct Energy. He currently leads our power origination opportunities in PJM, ISO-NE and New York.
David Hindman, ERCOT Power
David has eight years of wholesale market experience in ERCOT and leads an experienced team. The ERCOT Desk is active in electricity, hourly shape, nodal basis and ancillary services. In addition, as an operator of power generation and provider of energy supply to retail electricity providers (REPs), we provide energy management services to help customers optimize their power generation assets as well as purchases and hedging.
